Oil – Which One To Choose Healthwise?

Oil is something we add most often to our food. It’s also something you can probably find in every kitchen you go to. So how important it is to have the one that is healthy for your body? It’s major.

So let me tell you briefly about the ones that are healthy for our bodies and skip the ones that are not.

Coconut oil

My favorite one. The most important thing about this one is that when ingested, it’s used as a quick source energy (not being converted into fat). It’s great for sauteing and frying (high smoke point). Plus this amazing smell of coconuts, won’t you feel like at the beach? Also, you know that coconut oil can help you with losing weight, right? What’s more it’s a natural energy booster and it boosts nutrients when used in smoothies.

Olive oil

My second choice. Great for salads, all the Italian food, (high temperatures) frying and roasting. It is a heart healthy fat with antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties. It helps fight cancer, helps with weight loss and obesity prevention, supports brain health, fights mood disorders and depression, great for boosting skin health and helps balance hormones. If you are at all health-conscious when it comes to olive oil, you may wish to use this gundry md olive oil coupon code and try an oil that is rich in polyphenols, which are a great antioxidant.

Avocado oil

It’s considered as the healthiest oil for cooking. It has the highest smoke point, so it can be used safely. It lowers blood pressure (because of the monounsaturated fats=good fats), improves arthritis symptons, it’s rich in vitamin E (“an antioxidant whose role is to repair damaged skin, balance hormones, improve vision and help to balance cholesterol”) and B12 (helps maintain the health of nerve cells). Also it improves heart health and lower cholesterol. What’s more avocado oil boosts nutrient absortion.

MCT (medium chain triglycerides) oil

It’s a form of saturated fatty acid that has many health benefits, ranging from improved cognitive function to better weight management (yes, you can lose weight with this one too). What’s the connection with coconut oil? 62-65% of the fatty acids in coconut oil are MCTs. They’re “supportive of our gut environment, especially since they have the capability to combat harmful bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites” and contain antioxidant properties. This oil can be added to smoothies, coffee, and even baked goods.

Ghee

This one also has a high smoke point and is a replacement of butter. It’s a great source of fat soluble vitamins A (natural skin clarifier), D (helps protect against harmful UV rays) and E. It’s also casein and lactose-free and it’s made from grass-fed cows. It builds strong bones with vitamin K2, supports weight loss, improves digestion and reduces inflammation.

Algae (algal) oil

A good thing to remember is that algal oil is better than the fish oil (I’m sure you’ve heard about toxin called mercury which you can unfortunately find in fish oil). It’s best used for high heat cooking like stir fry. One tablespoon of algal oil has as much monounsaturated fat as an avocado. What’s more, it supports healthy pregnancy, boosts eye health, supports cardiovascular health, improves memory, aids cognitive development and function and reduces inflammation.

So next time, you’ll be in the store, maybe consider buying one of the oils above.

Let’s make a healthy choice! 🙂

  1. On another note … Hey!! Thanks for stopping by “It Is What It Is” … and the follow. Hope you enjoy your visits there!! Hugs … Peace!!’ __/l\__

  2. I toured an olive oil facility in Lodi, California… learned much about the value (health & taste) of quality oil. An interesting topic, thank you!

  3. Typically, using olive oil increases the likelihood of choosing a salad over fast food for me. I might try some other oils . Thanks.

    1. That’s great, welcome on my blog! Well, that’s a good question and I’ll look into it and I’ll write one day about other oils as well :).

  4. Thank you for sharing. My husband put coconut oil in his coffee. He drinks olive oil at least a spoonful a day. I cook with olive oil, but I learned that olive oil doesn’t like high heat, so I steam the vegetable until almost cooked, that add olive oil in it. I am crazy about avocado. After I eat at least half avocado a day, my skin has a glow on it. I haven’t tried the rest of the oil you described yet. Will come back to read some more.
I like your tag line for your blog. That’s what we are doing in our (husband and I) life. 🙂 🙂 Oh, thank you for your follow.

      1. I am so glad to meet you. We are health nuts. We try to eat right, my husband exercise 6 days a week. I do about 2 0r 3 days. I do yoga, swimming, and use weight resistant machines. We travel and enjoy the nature.

      2. It’s wonderful you could do that, running with your boyfriend together. It’s good to motivate each other. My daughter and her husband are health nuts also. My husband said yesterday that he was tired after work, but then he went to the gym right after work, and felt great.

      3. Yes, I know this feeling the same, I’m tired after work, but if I’m stubborn enough and do a little workout then I’m feeling great after! 🙂

  5. Hello Ula,
you’ve been on my blog. Thanks for visiting “me”. I just read your post about oils. What do you think about walnut oil, pumpkin seeds oil and linseed oil? I’m using them very often! Avocado oil is very good for the skin but instead of oil we eat Avocados fresh.
    Have a nice weekend.

  6. Yes I use coconut oil too, not just for cooking, but moisturising and oil pulling too. It’s an excellent oil and worth every penny.

  7. Agree with you and use olive oil a lot but my daughter has been told about the benefits of rape seed oil. I’m not so sure as environmentally I don’t think it’s a good crop?

    1. That’s what I’ve found: “Rapeseed oil is poisonous to living things and is an excellent insect repellent. I have been using it (in very diluted form, as per instructions) to kill the aphids on my roses for the last two years. It works very well; it suffocates them. Ask for it at your nursery. Rape is an oil that is used as a lubricant, fuel, soap and synthetic rubber base and as a illuminate for color pages in magazines. It is an industrial oil. It is not a food. Rape oil, it seems, causes emphysema, respiratory distress, anemia, constipation, irritability, and blindness in animals and humans.”

  8. Word of caution, and you can research this. It has been found that many favorite olive oil companies are cutting the oil with chapter oils and flavouring. No it isn’t on the label. To test yours put it in the fridge. Pure olive oil will get cloudy and thicken because it is high in saturated fat. If it stays clear it is no good. I did read a list of good companies to but from. Mine stayed clear. We try to do the right thing but they want more profit. Honey is the same way. Only but unfiltered organic honey. Many companies are cutting it with high fructose corn syrup. Coconut oil – love it! I also make a paste adding baking soda to use as tooth paste. I suppose you can add stevia if you want it sweet, but why? It has a salty taste but you get used to it quickly. Who decided kids needed toothpaste that tasted like bubble gum anyway?

      1. your welcome. It is bad enough all the junk they put in our food, but products people use because we don’t want to eat garbage and they put it in anyway and not put it on the label is beyond worse.
