Reasons Why Antique Engagement Rings Are Popular

The world of wedding fashion is often inspired by timeless traditions and modern trends. From the white wedding gown to romantic up-dos to a sparkling diamond ring, the possibilities are endless. While some couples still go towards a brand-new diamond ring, others feel pulled by the beauty by antique engagement rings. In fact, an article at Brides.com says antique engagement rings were a top trend of 2017. It’s easy to see why as you look at the following reasons:

Antique rings have a unique history

If you want your ring to stand out from all of your friends with its beauty, craftsmanship, and history, look at antique rings. Some couples have been gifted their great-grandmother’s engagement ring and love wearing the family heirloom. However, other couples may not have inherited such a gem so they begin shopping for antique rings with rich history and timeless beauty. If you love antiques, now you’ll have a family heirloom to pass on for generations.

Older diamonds add character

Older diamonds aren’t cut as precise as today’s diamonds are. These softer cuts light up like romantic candlelight versus sparkling like a night’s sky like the modern Round Brilliant diamond cut, invented in the 1940s.

You’re partial to the past era

Do you love the combination of gemstones and diamonds? The Victorian Era often combined diamonds with colorful stones like rubies, emeralds, or sapphires and featured early European cut diamonds clustered around them. This year, Edwardian era rings are also popular as these rings embody delicacy and femininity with their intricate detailing, floral motifs, colored gemstones, and the use of platinum. Finally, Art Deco engagement rings are always popular because of the glitz and glamour of that time period, as well as the use of platinum, white gold, and bold, geometric shapes. You’ll find all of these, including art deco engagement rings available at Kalmar Antiques.

You’re going green

Couples who are passionate about going green and protecting our planet often looks towards antique engagement rings. This is because these rings require no additional mining, and some couples are concerned about receiving conflict or “blood diamonds,” which are illegally mined diamonds that finance African rebels. Luckily, only 1 percent of diamonds mined are actually conflict diamonds, but some couples prefer taking the precaution.

You’re interested in celebrity trends

Antique engagement rings are popular and trendy among celebrities and fashion icons. From Scarlett Johansson to Natalie Portman to Penelope Cruz, these ladies have set the trends with rectangle settings, recycled platinum and 3-carat opals. While you may not want to choose your engagement ring on just one trend, luckily antique and vintage engagement rings feature a stunning beauty and history that will never go out of style.

While you’ll see an array of stunning engagement rings; there is only one perfect ring for you. You’ll know when you find it because it’ll fit your personality, whether you’re a girly-girl or more laid back. In addition, the right ring will speak to you so you feel like you’re wearing a little piece of history or someone’s story and making it your own.

  3. I have to agree. There is something special about an antique ring. For one they are timeless, elegant have a history and are just simply beautiful. Romantic? maybe. I like to picture another time and place and who wore it why and who gave it presented it or whether it was bought by the individual themself. Then there’s the mystery of it all…need I say more? :):)

  4. I definitely agree! I have been working in Jewelry for years as a hobby and I find that the antique rings are getting more popular now. They are timeless beauties for sure.

  5. I love vintage engagement rings. I am currently seeking one as a special ring just for me because why should a girl wait for a man to spoil her? 😉 Fun article!
