We all know golf as the sport of gentlemen and leisure. And it is also one of the most popular games globally that both the young and the young at heart will enjoy playing for hours. But, what many individuals seem to overlook is that this physically challenging and mentally stimulating game also comes with a myriad of benefits to your health.

#1 Reducing Stress

With the challenges that come with the daily work, life, and school routines, stress is investable. But, a few rounds over the weekend or a few times in the week can be instrumental in keeping stress levels down. Golf is one of those sports that will leave you with a happy feeling when playing and if you combine this with the fresh outdoor air and the release of endorphins that happens when playing you have a simple but effective way of distressing.

#2 Heart Health

The heart is probably the most critical organ in your body, and so anything that can help you keep it in good shape is worth it. Playing golf provides the body with much needed physical exercise. Everything you do when playing from walking from one hole to the other to even carrying your golf bag will increase the heart rate and blood flow. And this in turn also reduces your risk of diabetes, stroke and other ailments.

#3 Weight Loss

As unbelievable as it might sound golf can help you shed those extra pounds. If you want to lose weight, you will have to make about 10,000 steps every day and playing an 18-hole will exceed this easily. Depending on your weight, gender and whether you are walking or using a cart you can expect to burn anywhere between 1,500 and 2,500 calories when playing an 18-hole.

#4 Brain Stimulation

Walking around the course as you play golf can also help with brain stimulation. And this is because it will strengthen the memory circuits. By walking, you will be making sure that your brain is getting enough supply of blood which is vital to help you function better now and in the future. Also, golfing will require you to calculate every shot keenly, and there is also a lot of thinking involved, and this can also help in brain stimulation. For example, when you need to choose the right golf wedges or irons for the next shot you have to consider the distance and capabilities of each of the clubs and doing this several times can help to jog your brain.

#5 Improved Sleep

If you fall asleep the second your head lands on the pillow, you are quite fortunate. And this is because millions of people across the globe struggle with insomnia every other day. But, playing golf can help you deal with this annoying problem. It might not be a magical cure for your insomnia, but the exercise that you get when on the course combined with the relaxing atmosphere can improve your sleep both in quantity and quality.

Golf is a fun sport, and it will always make an interesting weekend activity to do with your friends. But, besides from, giving you an excuse to catch up with your buddies it can also have many health benefits. Well, it will not solve all your health issues, but it will have a positive effect on your overall well-being. The five benefits above are some of the top ones, but there are still many others that you can enjoy. And if you combine golfing with regular exercising and following a healthy diet you will reduce the risk of diseases significantly.

  1. I love golfing! I have been doing it since I was 7 years old! It is my favorite sport and all the benefits you mentioned are very true! So nice to see another blogger that loves golfing!

  2. Must admit I’ve never played golf! Not even crazy golf (which should probably be on my 2018 bucket list). Hadn’t given any thoughts to any of the above either so this is quite an eye-opening post as I think many, myself included, wouldn’t associate golf with much in the way of health benefits. Funky jumpsuit too! 🙂

  3. I agree we in India had misconception about golf as a sport. It is changing. Still it is reasonably expensive to buy clubs and getting access to greens. Good ones need membership. Less expensive ones have long queue.

  4. I don’t play golf, but the tips are important health tips! Thanks! And what else I have to say, you look gorgeous! But isn’t a jumpsuit annoying when you have to go to the bathroom?
    Best regards, Heidi
