Revealing My Ethnicity

When I was a little girl, I always loved listening to my parents’ stories about our family. My dad was born in 1939, the year when the World War II started. His uncle was sent to Syberia. I know that some of my ancestors were from other countries in Europe. That being said, I’ve always wanted to uncover my ethnicity.

Details

MyHeritage is the most global DNA service, with a huge database from all over the world and 42 unique ethnicity regions. What is the most convenient is that it is very easy to take MyHeritage DNA test. There’s no blood or spit, just a simple cheek swab.

Together with my husband (V) have decided to do it in order to find out what our background is. You can buy a DNA kit here and use the coupon code “SIMPLEULA” for free shipping. MyHeritage uses leading technology and offers the most affordable price of all of the leading DNA companies. It is also completely private and secure service.

The Process

Our DNA kits came in two individual boxes, which included everything that is needed for DNA test. The process took us 2 minutes with just simple cheek swabs. We mailed the samples in enclosed envelopes.

My husband and I were very excited to learn new things about ourselves, understand better where we both came from and even discover new family members! ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks to this DNA service, you can find your ethnicity estimate, because it uncovers the percentage breakdown of your ethnic origins from 42 different ethnicities. Second thing is that after you take this test, you can find your DNA Matches – people who are likely to be your relatives based on the similarities between their DNA and yours. How amazing is that?

The Big Reveal

When I received an e-mail that my DNA test results are ready, I was super excited. I sat down together with V in front of our laptop and clicked “play”. It is made so wonderfully that the music is even played from the ethnicity you are.

I am:

  • 92.8% Baltic
  • 3.7% Greek
  • 3.5% Scandinavian

As you can see, I’m very European :). Most of my life I’ve lived in the north-east of Poland so it’s pretty clear that I’m Baltic. I was very surprised about Greek in all of these, but I won’t lie, I’m very happy about it. It’ll explain my love for olive oil, olives and chicken souvlaki. The funny thing is that after finding this about myself, I decided to make chicken souvlaki for dinner for the very first time and it turned out delicious!

V was always saying that I might have Vikings as my ancestors. When we saw that there’s a little percentage of Scandinavian in me, we looked at each other and started laughing. I’m pretty tall, naturally blonde hair, blue eyes so there you go :). Also, now I know why I like Scandinavian style so much! ๐Ÿ™‚

Another amazing thing, which I’ve mentioned about is finding your DNA matches. It is so great to see and be notified whenever there is someone who matches my DNA. I was suprised to find so many cousins and I hope to find way more. I’ll keep on waiting patiently and maybe one day, I’ll figure out who was from Greece in my family :).

No Regrets

I am very content that I’ve decided to take MyHeritage DNA tests together with my husband. We are both surprised and excited at the same time with our results. To be honest with you I’m very happy that people come up with such services, because it is always great to find out about your background! ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve recommended MyHeritage DNA to all my friends and family already and now I want to share with you all about it. I’m also very happy to have this coupon code “SIMPLEULA” to share it with you for free shipping. You can purchase your first DNA kit here.

Please know that MyHeritage isnโ€™t just a DNA service. It is also a platform of family history research, that includes many tools such as family tree building, billions of international historical records, fascinating discoveries about your ancestors, and more. This platform is the perfect complement to your DNA test results.

  1. I did a test through Ancestry and found I also had Greek in me (17% I believe) and was really excited over it as well. The excitement while waiting to get the results back then finally seeing them is so fun ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. 100%! Same here girl and I’m glad we both have some Greek in us ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŒป

  2. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ Happy for u Ulla and V too. I now want to do this test. My parents came from Poland and were both born in the 20s. I am so excited they have this available to usโ˜บ Thank u for sharing

  3. Although I used a different service, it was great fun to see my results. All my life Iโ€™ve been told I โ€œlook like an Irish girl with French eyes.โ€ Apparently they were right. Iโ€™m basically 2/3 Irish with a huge chunk of French ancestry thrown in. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Youโ€™ve about convinced me to take the dna test. My family, at least on my grandpaโ€™s side kept pretty good family records. However, they seem to stop when we get as far back as Nurnberg, Germany. On my grandmotherโ€™s side, Iโ€™ve been able to trace it to 18th century migrants from Edinburgh, Scotland and coastal England. Considering those were areas often attacked and pillaged (as well as some settled) by Norse invaders, Iโ€™d not be surprised to find some Scandinavian percentage as well. Weโ€™ll see. Iโ€™ll post later if and when I find out.

  5. Fascinating. My cousin followed the family history, and she discovered some interesting twists. I’m curious now to see if science confirms what she discovered. This could lead to more surprises!

  6. So cool! I will eventually take one of these tests once I get the chance. A large portion of my family comes from Mexico and Spain, but I think it would be fun to see if anything else pops up :).

  7. I have been wondering about doing a test and didnโ€™t really know what it entailed โ€“ really interesting to read it all here! thank you!
