Focus On Your Wellbeing For A Happier Life

Your wellbeing is something that shouldn’t be taken for granted. It is easy to ignore some of the parts of your life that are having a detrimental effect on your physical and mental health, but we are going to address those issues here. The idea is to make sure you are getting the most out of your life whether that is in your personal time at home or through your working life. There are options open to you in both, so let’s take a look at how you can lead a happier and healthier life.

Career

The first thing we are going to look at is one of the parts of life that a lot of people, perhaps most, will say brings them down. Whether you’re getting up in the dark on a Monday morning, or dragging your feet to the office at the weekend, there is a good chance that your career isn’t fulfilling your needs. Now, it is important at this point to say that if you are happy with your work, then revel in that feeling. The grass isn’t always greener and having a job that satisfies your needs is one of life’s great pleasures, no matter what you are doing. But sadly, that isn’t the case for everyone, so let’s take a look at some of the ways you can make changes to your career.

Education

The most obvious place to start is by looking at how you can develop your skills through different educational opportunities. Thanks to the growth of the internet in the past few decades, the options that are open to you for personal development are enormous. And that is something that you should be positive about, it means that you are never stuck in one place for too long and that your future is very much in your hands. For every office worker who is looking to learn a new language online to explore opportunities abroad, there is a nurse making the most of an RN to BSN online program. All you need to do is find what it is that you want to do and get started.

It doesn’t have to be a degree. The likes of Google and LinkedIn have many digital courses that will boost your CV and give you new skills to impress your current management or a new employer.

Freelance

Another way that the internet has helped the average worker is by opening up the number of freelance opportunities available to the majority of people. Commonly referred to as the gig economy, websites like Fiverr and companies such as Uber give you the chance to build a schedule that suits your needs and the ability to work in a field that gives you a creative outlet or utilises a skill you enjoy making the most of. You might want to engage in freelance work as a side-hustle, or give it your full dedication.

Whichever you choose, the options are there and greater than ever before.

Exercise & Diet

It is more or less impossible to talk about physical and mental health without alluding to the importance of exercise and diet in our daily lives. Now, if you are looking for a fad diet that is going to make bold promises but deliver very little then this isn’t the place for you. No, the aim here is to find a healthy balance of diet and exercise to ensure you are living your best life with consistency and not wild changes.

Your diet doesn’t need to include any drastic measures, you should just make sure that you are getting the six essential nutrients into your body. This can be done in any number of ways and apps like MyFitnessPal will help you document your diet through a diary and show you the breakdown to ensure you are meeting your body’s requirements. The six food groups are:

  • Carbohydrates
  • Protein
  • Fats
  • Vitamins
  • Minerals
  • Water

They all play a significant role in the processes going on in your body from giving your energy to boosting your immune system.

In addition to diet, there is the exercise you should be doing. Once again we are not talking about taking on a big life changing plan, no we are looking at fulfilling our body’s basic needs and requirements. That means getting in a minimum of 150 minutes moderate aerobic exercise and doing strength training three days a week. So by going for a run or a swim and doing a set of push-ups with squats and lunges for a little over an hour three times a week, you are doing the exercise you need according to medical science.

Life doesn’t have to be full of awful stresses and pains, instead you can lead a happy and healthy life by meeting your body’s needs and not accepting a negative work-life balance.

  1. I have spent the last six years ignoring my well being. I committed to taking care of my kids and being a good wife. I would go out of my way to help my family and put off everything I wanted. I decided to take this year to do for me. It has not been working out as I had hoped because I keep falling into my old habits. I’m working on it though. I have stayed focused on my blog, joined a book club, will be going to a writing group meeting at the end of March, and have an obstacle course that I am running in July. It’s little steps, but it feels nice to have those to look forward to. I hope to keep moving forward with focusing on my well being while also still taking care of my little ones.

    1. That’s wonderful what you’re doing right now and keep it up. You need to take care of yourself in order to take care of your loved ones ☺🌸

  2. Ditto to all you have shared. I great post. It’s great to read someone who have the same values and beleifs as myself.

  3. Great advice. Especially, the exercise part of the equation. It is critical for all of the others to work together. Work it into your daily routine and you will be much happier!

  4. Freelance work has always appealed to me. Lately, I’ve been thinking of starting something on the side. It would be fantastic if I could eventually do it full time.

  5. Interesting post, and among the factors you mention, I think “Exercise & Diet” is the most consequential, as the others prosper only when it does. It’s the foundation on which our other achievements ae built You’ve inspired many thoughts with this article!

  6. I’m currently in nursing school! I found out about accelerated nursing through LinkedIn surprisingly! I’m in school so that I can afford to send my future children to university and let them grow up privileged, plus I want to contribute as well as my husband.
