Our First Anniversary (part I) in Ottawa

Our first year wedding anniversary (part I) my hubby and I decided to celebrate in the capital of Canada. As the whole year of our married life passed by so quickly, but very happily, the same was with our stay in Ottawa :). We had an amazing and sweet time together, stayed at the very clean and comfortable hotel and ate some very delicious food. I think going to Ottawa was a great idea for our celebration of our one year of a married life.

We stayed that whole weekend in the executive suite at the Arc the Hotel. If you ever have a chance to visit Ottawa, I highly recommend this hotel. Can I say it’s the best hotel in Ottawa? 🙂 Oh well, who’s gonna stop me from saying that, right? It felt like home! The hotel was so nice and pleasant just as the souls who work there. They were always with a smile on their faces and so helpful: taking care of all our belongings so we didn’t have to worry about anything. We were welcomed with two glasses of champagne, a yummy snack and a sweet, handwritten note from the general manager left in our suite :).

The bed was so comfortable that I kinda miss it :D. The suite overall was very spacious and clean. When we ordered the room service for breakfast, we got so much food that we were very content :).

We decided to give each other gifts on Saturday morning – that was our original plan. However, my hubby surprised me on Friday evening with a box of roses from Symphonie Des Roses in tiffany blue (that last one year) :).

On Friday evening we went to LIFT Resto Lounge and the food there was very mouthwatering and when we got our special dessert (which you can see below), it was like a “cherry on a pie” :).

Going back to Saturday morning and our anniversary gifts, we gave each other necklaces from Waxing Poetic. I think that surprises are getting normal in our relationship, because I broke the rule as well and got for my hubby the whole Conair Barber Shop Pro Series. Now not only his life will be easier, but also mine, because I’m my husband’s private hairdresser (yes, I’m thinking to take this career more serious… kidding), but my one and only client (hubby) is always satisfied after the visit :D. No more bad mood after getting a haircut somewhere else :).

After we got out of bed and got ready, we went out to discover Downtown Ottawa and of course, see the very famous Parliament Buildings. We were a little sad that there were so much constructions, but it didn’t stop us from having a good time sightseeing :). Personally, I felt a little like in Europe since the buildings are old and the architecture is very astounding. Centennial Flame made a pretty big impression on us (even though my husband saw it when he was very young). Also, we both really liked the National War Memorial and when we were there it reminded me of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Warsaw, Poland.

When we got back to the hotel, it started raining outside, so we were relieved that we didn’t get caught in the rain. We decided to spend some time relaxing, talking about our day, what is still before us and watching the rain knocking on the windows :). With time passing by, we were getting very enthusiastic about our dinner at GRILL Forty One and even started deciding what we’re going to have there :). This restaurant was very close to us, because we had to walk only 4 minutes to get there so even though it was (still) raining, we got there dry as dust :). I have decided to wear my dress from Vasiliki, (which is 100% silk and since I was a little girl, I’ve always wanted one! 🙂 ).

We were so pleasantly surprised how nice it is inside this restaurant and we were more than happy with our table, which was so intimate. Exactly what what we wanted :).

We started with hummus & babaganoush and my hubby had Jamaican jerk wings. Since we both loved the appetizers we had, we thought there cannot be something we’re going to enjoy more. We were wrong. When our main dishes came (petit fillet mignon and seafood linguini), we both turned “the silent mode on” and “dived” into our meals. That was something we’re still talking about today :D. I have to also mention that the service was outstanding! We spent over two hours at this restaurant and we didn’t want to leave, because at the end of our visit, there was a live band playing jazz music – it couldn’t get any better, yay! 🙂

This weekend in Ottawa was astonishing, but it’s not the end of celebration of our one year anniversary :).

Onto the next one! 🙂
