Ottawa – Where To Stay, What To Eat & What To See

As you may already know, Ottawa is the capital of Canada, which makes it one of must-see cities in this beautiful country. As far as I am concerned, I really like Ottawa and I’m very happy that we did move here (just outside of Ottawa) in 2021. It was the best decision for our family :). That being said, let me tell you about our little staycation this past week.

Where To Stay

Le Germain Hotel Ottawa is the best place to stay at while you’re in the city. The service is exceptional and the room is incredibly cozy with a beautiful, yet simple and clean design. We stayed in The Prestige King that comes with panoramic view (which we loved), reading area and bathtub. Of course, a very comfortable bed with goose-down duvets and feather pillows.

We also had the sweetest welcome with some surprises waiting for us, and even our pictures framed! Plus, they set up a tent for our Lily, which she loved playing in!

Hands down, it’s one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at. I do need to also mention the fact about water. We are a family that drinks lots of water :). Me alone – at least four litres a day so we need plenty of it. What made me very happy to see is the availability of water at this hotel. You can find spring water on each floor next to the elevator. On top of that, their minibar is not only filled with alcohol, but still and sparkling water. Additionally, whenever we came back from dinner, we could find two filled carafes of water with glasses next to our (newly made) bed. Something as simple as water just spoke to my heart :). That also should be a great tip for other hotels that want to step up to the level of Le Germain Hôtels.

Now would be a perfect time to visit the capital of Canada, because they do have a special offer with a 20% discount for stays of 2 nights or more (valid for stays between February 23rd and April 7th, 2024). Perfect for your upcoming spring break vacation! You can check it right here.

What To Eat

Both of our dinners we had a pleasure to have at a beautiful Norca Restaurant & Bar, which stands for Nordic cuisine, Canadian ingredients. First of all, we really like the ambiance of the restaurant, the music and decor – everyone will find a spot that suits just them. On the first day, we chose a spot with much brighter light and some beautiful fresh flowers on our table. While on the second day, we sat at the more private area of the restaurant.

When it comes to food, we had no complains. We actually loved everything! We also really appreciate the fact that they made something extra (what’s not on the menu) for our daughter. That was very nice of them.

Appetizers, such as: Norca’s Fancy Fries, Quebec Duck and Cheese Curd Spring Rolls, Crispy Fried Chicken and Cauliflower, and Ricotta and Spinach Gnudi were the ones that we had and they were all mouthwatering! For mains: my large Mezze Platter and Caesar Salad were crunchy, fresh and filled with lots of flavour. Steak-Frites, on the other hand, were that good for my husband that he went with it on both days. For desserts, we loved Chili Chocolate Tart and Lemon Mousse.

I do need to mention that presentation of each meal was spotless. I also love fresh, eatable flowers on each of their meals – it’s a beautiful addition! Along with the mocktails we had: Light & Sunny, Garden Smash and Because It’s Pink – they were all delicious.

When it comes to the morning and our breakfasts, we made a decision to have them at Jackson Café, which is located in the same building, inside the Ottawa Art Gallery. You can enjoy delicious masterpieces freshly crafted by Café Saint-Henri microroasters and Gatineau’s own Maison Oddo pastry house and bakery in an elegant and inspiring environment. We loved London Fog and Chai Latte and our Lily her hot chocolate. Their oatmeal and pastry were very tasty and fresh. Our falafel wrap and Italian Deli Sandwich were also mouthwatering.

What To See

In my opinion, if you are in Ottawa, Canadian Museum Of History is a must-see. It is a national museum on anthropology, Canadian history, cultural studies, and ethnology located only 11-minute drive from the hotel. It is very nicely curated museum, which our little family of three loved visiting very much and we cannot wait to go back!

If you do have small kids yourself, Le Rond point is a fun place, where you can find lots of attractions that kids love.

All in all, the location of Le Germain Hotel in Ottawa is so convenient that you can simply take a short walk to The Parliament of Canada, Byward Market, and many more fabulous places.
