Your First New Build: How To Approach It

There are few things more exciting than being in a position to build your own home from scratch. Once you are thinking about doing this, you are going to find that it’s important to make sure you are approaching it in the right manner, and there are many things that you are going to want to think about in that regard. In this post, I am going to look at some of the essentials of how you should probably be approaching your new build. As long as you have thought about the following, you should be able to make a success of it much more effectively.

Finding The Perfect Plot

First up, you should be careful not to overlook or downplay just how important it is that you find the right plot of land to build on. Having the right plot of land is one of those things that can make or break the whole project, so it’s really worth spending as much time on as you can afford to. Ultimately, it will determine whether your project can happen or not. You need to consider size and scale, the shape of the land, the distance from the road and from the local town or city, and whether you can get planning permission. If you don’t have that, you can’t do anything.

Pre-Construction

Next up comes the pre-construction process, and this is important for quite literally laying the groundwork of the whole project. If you have opted to use a professional construction team – which is definitely the way you should be approaching this – then you should make sure that you get all the necessary pre-construction advice from them upfront. This will include information on how to bridge any design gaps, building a construction schedule, and general advice on the trades you might be using. It’s one of the most valuable parts of the whole process.

Building The Superstructure

Once the groundwork has been laid and the schedule is properly in place, it is time to start building the superstructure. This is quite simply the skeleton of what the building will ultimately be, and as such it is one of the most important parts of the whole building. Essentially, this is going to start giving you an idea of what the house will look like in a very general way, and as such it is often one of the most exciting parts of the whole construction process.

Extra Floors & Roofing

Next up, you need to start building any upper floors that you might be considering in your design, and you need to start laying the foundation for the roof. This is again one of the most important parts of the whole project, as without a strong roof you are not going to be able to expect your home to survive all that well in different elements. But with the right team on board, your roof should be in place and sturdy in no time.

As you can see, there is a very simple step by step process you should follow.
