May arrived the way it always does here — slowly at first, then all at once. One morning you’re still reaching for a sweater, and the next you’re out the door without even thinking about it (my favourite way!), following Lily wherever her little legs want to go :).
Mother’s Day with Grandma
For Mother’s Day, we packed up and visited Lily’s grandma, and there’s really no better way to mark the occasion than watching those two together. The kind of love between a grandmother and a grandchild is something you can’t manufacture or rush. You just get to witness it and I love the pictures I took of them while they were in their pyjamas telling stories to each other :). A beautiful memory!
One Day Trip To Niagara Falls
Since we’ve been to Niagara Falls so many times, we wanted to just visit it for one day. The weather didn’t exactly cooperate. It was mostly overcast and moody the whole time, but here’s the thing about Niagara: it doesn’t need sunshine to be dramatic. If anything, the clouds made everything feel a little more cinematic.
Power Station + Tunnel was our first stop — going underground and getting that close to the raw force of the falls is genuinely humbling. We did it last time, but we wanted to experience it one more time :). Also, Lily really enjoyed the Power Station, and all the new things she learnt this time.
Niagara Takes Flight was an experience we hadn’t done before. A flying theatre-style ride over the falls and the surrounding landscape — fun and surprisingly immersive.
But the highlight — without question — was the Butterfly Conservatory. That was another place that we had to visit again. We all loved it, but Lily was absolutely enchanted. Hundreds of butterflies floating freely around you, landing on shoulders or caps as in my case (please see the reel and/or the carousel post on my Instagram so you’ll know what I’m talking about) :).
All in all, the weather wasn’t ideal, but the memories were made. And honestly? That’s the whole point.
Back Home: Farm Days and Fresh Air
Once we were back home and the warmer weather properly settled in, we spent as much time outside as possible. That meant trips to the local farms — picking up fresh produce, letting Lily explore and visit her favourite peacocks, and just breathing in that early-summer air that smells like cut grass and possibility.
