Want An Effective Workout? Get Specific!

Everyone wants to be in slightly better shape. It doesn’t matter who you are, from the skinniest model to the laziest couch potato; everyone wants to be able to reach their full potential when it comes to physical fitness. Why then, do so many people never end up managing to do that? One of the simplest and most obvious reasons is they aren’t being specific enough. What does this mean? Well, not everyone is going to have the same desires when they’re exercising. Some people want to lose weight while others want to bulk up. If you’re not specific about the results that you want to see, then you’re never going to see any. With that in mind, here are some ways to get more specific, and therefore more productive, with your workout.

Achievable goals

The first thing you need to do is decide what you want to get out of your workout in the long term. Whether it’s weight loss, increased muscle mass, a leaner silhouette, or anything else, you need to know exactly what you want. However, you can’t just leave it at that. A goal like that is great, but it can often feel very distant and unachievable. The next step is to break up your goals into smaller, more manageable chunks. If you want to lose weight, then give yourself specific milestones on the way to your ultimate goal. That way you always have something to celebrate and keep your motivated. The same goes for building muscle. Why not have a goal of a new maximum weight that you’re trying to build towards bit by bit. These things can act like breadcrumbs that keep you on the right track until you are finally able to reach your ultimate fitness goal.

The right gear

Of course, if you want specific results then you have to go about it in specific ways. Not only are you going to need to focus on particular types of workouts depending on the results that you want to see, but you’re also going to have to think about the equipment that you need. A cardio-focused workout routine is going to need different equipment that a weight training based routine. And even within things like weight training, there is a lot of variation. Doing more reps with lighter weights is great for toning your body, but fewer reps with heavier weights will help increase muscle mass more significantly. Things like adjustable dumbbells are great for this since they allow you to dynamically adjust the kind of workout you’re getting. Read here: http://defendyourhealthcare.us/complete-guide-to-adjustable-dumbbells to find out more information on them. Getting the right gear might be a little expensive at first, but you should think of it as an investment in yourself and your body.

Sensible time frames

One of the most common reasons why a lot of people end up getting discouraged and giving up on their workouts is because they don’t see results right away. If you’re expecting to see a change in your body in the span of a couple of weeks, then you’re dreaming! Make sure that your goals are set within sensible time frames so that you can actually start to see some real results. Not only that but you should make sure that you’re working out regularly as well. if you’re only working out once a fortnight then you’re never going to see any benefits from it and will just end up wasting your time and money!

  1. The sensible time frame is important. So many people trying to lose ten pounds in two days…they lose five but then put it back on quickly.

  2. Very informative post Ula.. Fitness is a key for a healthy and happy life and everyone should include exercise in one’s daily routine.
