Why Isn’t My Diet Working? 3 New Answers To An Old Question

It happens to everyone. You start a new diet and then a week or a month later realize that you’re not seeing any effect at all. Your diet simply isn’t working. This can be frustrating, and it might even make you consider giving up altogether. But you have to remember that if you started a diet, you will have had a good reason. Perhaps you were trying to improve your health for your family. Or, maybe you were eager to regain your confidence from your youth? Whatever the reason you need to keep pushing forward. But first, you need to find out why your diet has failed.

How’s Your Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis

Don’t let the weird name fool you. NEAT exercise is nowhere near as complicated as it sounds. Basically, there are always going to be times through the day when you are doing nothing physical. During this time, your body is actually working against your attempts to lose weight. Every hour you spend doing nothing is another ounce of effort that you’re going to need to put towards dropping those pounds. See the issue? Okay, but what if we told you that you can actually continue to burn those calories when you’re doing nothing? You can. For instance, while you’re sitting at your desk, try some butt clenches or just swing those arms around. Yes, you’ll look a tad weird, but you’ll be doing more to improve your health than the person in the cubicle next to you!

Are You Cheating?

Some people just can’t help but keep a few unhealthy treats in their diet. Alcohol is a popular one. You might diet and compensate by drinking a lot of alcohol. Unfortunately, while those shots may fill the hole, they are also high in calories. You’ll be shooting yourself in the foot here. Of course, this also presents the issue that unhealthy substances can be addictive, and that’s why a diet may also require rehabilitation. Particularly, if you love your glass of red wine with dinner a little too much. It’s not just alcohol though. Sugar can also be addictive as can chocolate.

Are You Sure Your Diet Is Healthy?

You might think that you’re eating healthy when really you’re not. An example of this would be diet ready meals. Diet ready meals seem like a great option for a few reasons. First, they are super easy. Bung them in the microwave, and you don’t even have to worry about getting out a cookbook. They are often boastful too, claiming that they contain zero fat which is too an extent, true. However, they might also have low levels of sugar and other additives to add some taste to an otherwise flavorless meal.

The advertised healthy option isn’t always the best. If you’re going to Mcdonalds and you order a salad, you’ll actually be eating more calories than if you chomped down on that devilish burger.

We hope these questions help you get the answers to why your diet hasn’t worked well for you.
