How To Build Up Your Self-Confidence

We all need some self-confidence at some point and if I ask you, if you are confident, a few of you would answer “yes” to this question. The good news, for the rest of you, is that it is a skill that anyone can learn.

Here’s my advice how you teach yourself to be more confident (always keep in mind: do not give up)! 🙂 :

1. Self-talk

We tend to have negative self-talk that goes on in our heads, but why we want to tell ourselves that we are not good enough. There are enough people thinking of us this way. We need to remember that our thoughts influence actions. If you start thinking about yourself in a good light, that’s what others will think, as well. Not that I’m saying that it’s important what others say. It’s best to get away from the people who will tear you down. I’m sure though that you heard a quote: “the way you treat yourself, you’ll be treated”.

Whether it’s when you’re brushing your teeth or having lunch on your own, it’s a good time to reaffirm that you’re a captain of your ship. If you don’t say it and if you don’t believe it, no one else will.

There’s a difference between ego, false pride and self-esteem. What I’m talking about is just reminding yourself in quiet moments that you are good enough.

2. The way you dress is the way you feel

When I need more confidence, because I’ll be in a situation that requires some more self-esteem and I need to build myself up, I dress in clothes that make me feel good and I feel comfortable in. Lately, my RE/DONE jeans and t-shirts do exactly that for me so when I go out and want to rock out the meeting, that’s exactly what I wear. The quality of their clothes and the way they’re cut, keeps up the confidence in me.

When you go somewhere, in order to feel good about yourself, don’t put on the pants that are uncomfortable, but invest in a pair that will last you for years and makes you feel self-assured. When you dress nicely, you are more confident and feel successful and more presentable.

3. Think and act positive

Thinking positive is one way, but you also need to act on it.

Everything is going to be okay and if it’s not okay, that means that it’s not the end yet. This is what I always think of whenever I feel overwhelmed with something going the wrong way.

When it comes to acting in a positive way, you need to take action instead of telling yourself “I can’t”. Of course, there might be failures, but at least you tried and you need to know that failures are the best lessons in life.

Talking to people in a positive way and sharing your smile with others, puts out there the positive energy that comes back to us sooner or later. Being kind and generous is a tremendous way to improve your self-image. You start to feel good about yourself and you start thinking that you are a good person, which does wonders for your self-confidence.

All in all, (once again) don’t give up and get ready to tackle the world! 🙂

    1. Thank you so much! Oh, when I turned 18 🙂, in Poland you need to be 18 to get the driving license 🙂🌸

  1. Always funny when something feels so obvious but at the same time is something that for whatever reason isn’t automatically done. I exercise the self talk skill every day and I’ve been doing it for years yet it’s still not automatic. Still have to actively think about it every single time. Who knew it’d be so difficult to train yourself to hear Tony the Tiger in your head everyday? “You’re great!”

  2. I’ve followed this advice for years, late now since I’m 86 and retired. But I can vouch that self-talk, dressing comfortably (but appropriately) resulted in my always getting the job I wanted when I needed it. My rule of thumb: if it isn’t comfortable, don’t wear it.

  3. Thank you so much ula .I don’t know what to say..I was totally broken and once i did thought about committing suicide..but now i know i can do something.. please keep posting things like this..
    With lots of love
