5 Beautiful Home Decor Ideas Your Whole Family is Going to Love

When it comes to home decor, you don’t have to hire a professional to outfit your home in a way that pleases both you and your partner, and the whole family. You can do it with minimal help in a way that satisfies your personal sense of style and your need to keep it family-friendly. Without further ado, here are 5 beautiful home decor ideas everyone’s going to love.

1. Barn Doors

Sliding barn doors aren’t just for the barn. They are one of the hot new trends in home decor, and now they are easier than ever to install on your own. Check out this list of the best barn door kits to help get you started. Barn doors give a unique touch to your decor. They come in a wide array of sizes and can be sophisticated, rustic and family-friendly all at the same time.

2. Your Kid’s Art

Ditch the fridge magnets and opt for something more permanent. Try showcasing your children’s artwork, framed on the walls or between the glass and the base of your coffee table. Choose works that go with your color scheme or give them the colors to work with, so it will match if matching is what you’re going for. It can be abstract works, a family portrait, silhouette or something else.

3. Soft Seating

When your house is home to a very active family, it helps to have some very soft and comfortable seating. This really comes in handy when you have small children in the mix. Hard furniture with corners that are perfect for injuring little teeth, eyes and other parts is not what you want. Soft seating options include ottomans, oversized bean bags, poufs and floor cushions. These can show off your sense of style while creating a warm and family-friendly space.

4. Designate an Adult Zone

There should be at least one place in your home that is just for you. A formal dining room that’s only used on special occasions could be that space. Another might be an office. An adults only zone doesn’t have to mean that children aren’t welcome there. It could mean that children are not welcome to play in these areas, that they cannot bring any toys, food or drink into these areas or whatever stipulations you decide. These areas allow you to have the decor of your dreams and have a little adult retreat in your home.

5. A Neutral Color Palette

A neutral color palette leaves you plenty of wiggle room. After all, part of having a family means having the ability to be flexible. Although it seems counterintuitive, white is a great option. The key to choosing white and other light neutral colors is investing in performance fabrics. Fabrics that are easy to clean and are stain resistant are worth their price when you have children in the home.

Whether your family includes children, pets or both, choosing a decor that fits your sense of style and your family’s lifestyle doesn’t have to leave anybody out. When you style your home right, your whole family is going to love it.

  1. I love barn doors! And, framing my grandbabies art for display! Too, being eclectic and soon become bored with my environment, am a huge fan of neutral. I keep it simple with predominately neutral large furniture pieces, even my plates in the kitchen, where I can add pops of color via throw pillows, decor items on tables, throw blankets, serving dish etc. That way, when I can become bore, I can easy and frugally, simply change the simple items to a new color and freshen and update the overall look.
Great advise! I love every one of them!

  2. An Adult Zone sounds like a great idea – I love the kids’ art but sometimes I just need to relax between some more decent Interieur;)

  3. Good ideas, Ula, though you won’t be able to follow some of your own advice (#2 – “Your Kid’s Art”) for at least a couple years yet.

What to do in the meantime? I’d suggest going to a local nursery school with a bag of candy, a tablet of paper and a bunch of crayons. Tell the kids, “One chocolate for each drawing you give me. But it has to be good. Scribbling doesn’t count.”.

  4. I always joke with my wife that as long as we have electricity, running water, and a roof that doesn’t leak, I leave the home décor up to her……LOL

  5. We have barn doors and absolutely love them! Also I love the ottoman idea! We have one in each room of our house and they are used for extra seating, a step up, and a little table. So versatile. Everyone needs about 20 haha. Thankyou for your post such great ideas
