Tips To Feel More Body-Confident

Body confidence is an issue that impacts everyone. Although research shows that women are most likely to be self-conscious about their bodies, low confidence has become more common in men. The age at which people start experiencing anxiety about the way they look has also decreased. A global study found that almost half of teenage girls are unhappy with their bodies. Building confidence is not easy, but there are steps you can take. Here are some tips to help you feel more body-confident.

Prioritize Self-Care

Self-care means different things to different people, but in its most basic form, it’s about looking after yourself. Some people may want to enjoy pampering, but the core foundations of self-care include eating well, making sure you get enough time to rest and sleep and exercising regularly. Taking care of your mental and physical health can have amazing benefits for your confidence. Once you’ve got these elements pinned down, you can add other activities or practices that make you feel good. Examples include hair and beauty treatments and looking after your skin and nails.

Tackle Problem Areas

We all have insecurities. Even the people who seem like they’re full of confidence have days when they don’t like what they see in the mirror or features they consider imperfections. It’s beneficial to try to be accepting of what you deem flaws, but it’s not always realistic to expect people to overcome issues that affect their confidence by simply accepting them. In many cases, there are ways to tackle problems that affect how you feel about your body. Examples include changing your diet to improve nutrition and doing more exercise or different types of activities to lose or gain weight, add muscle tone or highlight certain features.

Lifestyle changes can have an incredible impact, but they don’t always solve issues. You may also want to consider aesthetic treatments that target the flaws that are holding you back. If you dread being in a bikini because you can’t get rid of excess fat on your tummy or you’re self-conscious about the size of your nose, for example, cosmetic procedures like a tummy tuck and a nose job could help you feel more confident. Other popular examples include Botox and dermal fillers to reduce the visibility of signs of ageing, tooth whitening, veneers and modern orthodontics to create beautiful smiles and breast augmentation or reduction to alter the size of the breasts. It’s crucial to consider treatments carefully, especially surgical procedures, as they carry risks.

Adjust Your Social Media Settings

The rise of social media has impacted the way many of us feel about our looks. We often read about the negative effects of consuming content on social media, but there are positives too. While looking at edited photos and images of people with ‘perfect’ bodies can cause anxiety and low self-esteem and self-worth, consuming body-positive content can help you build confidence. A study by researchers in the UK found that viewing posts that captured different body ideals and shapes and sizes helped promote body satisfaction and improved user moods.

If you find yourself scrolling through images that make you feel low, it’s an excellent idea to take breaks from social media and adjust your settings. Stop following accounts that have a negative effect and look for influencers, groups and brands that champion individuality and diversity and post content that resonates with you.

Many of us don’t feel confident when it comes to our bodies. It’s not easy to increase self-confidence, but simple steps can have a positive effect. Examples include taking good care of your body and mind, being proactive in tackling issues that affect your confidence and adjusting your social media settings to reduce exposure to content that makes you feel less confident and find posts that lift you up.
