5 Ways To Keep On Top Of Stress In Your Life

Life can be very stressful. We quite often throw this term around without really thinking about it, though. What does it mean when something is stressful?

Stress can be a life-changing condition. It can cause you problems within your relationships, make you react in an erratic, prevent you from being able to work, and much more.

A staggering 48% of people say that stress has harmed their personal or professional life.

So, What are the causes of stress, and how do you deal with it in your life?

In this article, I’ll discuss stress. I’ll look at the causes. Then I’ll help to find you some ways that you can deal with stress in your life.

What Can Trigger Stress in Your Life?

Stress can be brought on by any number of different factors. We often think of stressors as being entirely negative. However, the release of hormones that causes the feelings associated with stress is there to protect us.

The boost of chemicals is designed to kick us into action and help us to deal with our problems. The heightened feeling of panic is there to push us. Unfortunately, when this kicks in too often, it can leave us feeling very uncomfortable, on edge, and always worried.

Some people will be more pre-disposed to feeling the effects of stress in their lives. This may be related to an existing medical condition, or it might be because of the amount of stress that they’ve experienced throughout their lives already.

When stress kicks in, this is often because there may be something external going on in your life. This might be a relationship issue, a problem in work, or having to deal with a significant incident such as a car accident.

In each of these cases, there may be ways that you can deal with them. Relationship problems may be overcome through better communication; work issues may be able to be addressed through rational problem solving and coping with motor vehicle accident claims can be done with the right legal and medical support.

It is always vital that you note the triggers that cause your stress so that you can work on the specific problems and look for ways of managing these things better in the future.

Dealing With Stress Through Exercise

One of the best ways of lowering your stress levels is through regular exercise.

Exercise helps you to create endorphins. These feel-good hormones will help you to feel motivated and energized and will balance out the hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline that have been brought on due to stress.

Try and get some exercise every day. Pick something that you will enjoy doing, and that suits your current fitness levels. If you are trying to reduce the levels of stress that you encounter in your daily life, then you’ll need to get into a good pattern of exercise to help you keep your stress levels naturally low.

Many people struggle to maintain an exercise routine. This is often because they are expecting too much of themselves from the outset. Instead of trying to push yourself hard from the start, gradually build up your level of activity over a period of time so that your body gets used to the exercise, and your mind builds up the habit of doing it.

Managing Your Stress Through Relaxation

It is essential to take some time to yourself each day to relax. During this time, your mind can process any stressful thoughts in an effective way. It will allow you the opportunity to reflect and prioritize.

Take some time in a quiet room. You may want to take a bath, or even meditate. Allow time to think slowly and eventually clear your mind. Many people turn to cannabis products to help their minds fully relax, as THC occurs naturally in the cannabis plant, which is a substance that has a relaxing effect on us. This will help to calm you down, meaning that you will be in a better mental state to actually think rationally about your problems and come up with positive solutions for them.

Lowering Your Stress Levels With Plenty of Sleep

Our minds and our bodies need sleep. Ideally, you should be aiming to try and get up to eight hours of sleep each night.

Sleep gives our brains a chance to digest everything that is going on throughout the day. Your senses will have overloaded your mind, and it will have received a lot of information. When you are stressed, your thoughts will be working overtime. The rush of hormones is designed to make you look for danger at every turn. This can be overwhelming and exhausting. It is, therefore, vital that you sleep.

When you’ve had a good night’s sleep, you’ll feel calmer and more mentally focused. You can tackle your issues head-on.

Talk To A Friend Or A Loved One

If you’re feeling the effects of stress in your life, talk to someone around you, and share your problems. They say that a problem shared is a problem halved. You may get good advice on dealing with your problems from a rational outsider who is able to see the problem in a more objective fashion, but you’ll also feel the relief from sharing.

Speak With Your Doctor

If stress has become a major part of your life and it is affecting everything that you do, then you should visit your doctor and talk to them about it.

As stress is linked to depression and other mental health problems, it is essential that you get help in managing stress before it becomes a chronic issue.

Your doctor should ask you several questions about your life, your diet, and sleep patterns. They may make some self-help suggestions, or they may be able to support you with medications by referring you for support in managing your stress.

The type of support that may be on offer for your stress may include talking therapies such as cognitive behavior therapy. This will help you to learn to find new ways of dealing with particular situations that you struggle with.

  3. Such an important topic, Ula! What I always like to do is keep in mind that stressful things happen, but our response to the stressful event depends 100% on our mindset and state of mental health. For instance, if we were already experiencing chronic stress and then face a trauma, we are more likely to respond in panic because the mental state we were in when the trauma occurred prevents us from reacting more peacefully. This is why meditation helps prepare us for handling stressful moments. Meditation trains the brain to see the stressful event as just a blip and helps us to turn down the stress response so that we don’t remain in the “fight or flight” state for longer than necessary. So it’s very important to regularly evaluate the things in our life that are stressful and prune away the things that no longer serve us so that we are as close to calm as possible so that we can respond appropriately when faced with new stresses.
