4 Steps to a Healthier Smile

Your smile, or lack thereof, is likely to be one of the things that people notice first about you. Having a healthy smile not only helps you to look good, but it is important for your oral health, and overall health too. When you look after your teeth and gums, you are looking after a variety of aspects of your body. Getting a healthy smile isn’t instant, and it is something that takes time to get right and get into the habit of doing. So with that in mind, here are some of the steps that you can take to improve the health and appearance of your smile.

Give Up Smoking

If you are a smoker, then this is the sign that you need to quit. Smoking can not only damage your appearance in general, such as leading to wrinkles around your mouth and yellow teeth, but it also means damage to your teeth and gums. If you have something like gum disease and smoke, then it can be very hard to reverse that and make it better. That can lead to a number of problems such as heart disease.

Choose Teeth Whitening Products Carefully

If you are looking to whiten your teeth then there are a number of products that are available. You can get toothpastes, gels, rinses, trays, and things like laser teeth whitening. The choices can vary in price, as well as vary in results. Something like a whitening toothpaste can help if you’re a coffee drinker, for example, and just want to freshen up your teeth. Ask a professional, such as the staff at Sage Dental Implant and Smile Centre for advice, though. You don’t want to get any damage from a cheap product that is going to do more harm than good to your teeth.

Get A Quality Toothbrush

If you want to look after your teeth, then a good quality toothbrush is a good place to start. Electric toothbrushes are the ones that are generally recommended by dentists, as they do all of the hard work for you. They can remove plaque and help your teeth to be healthier than when using a manual toothbrush. More modern models also have options for sensitive teeth and whitening cleaning options too. You only need to replace the toothbrush heads too, meaning that they can last and last.

Drink Plenty Of Water

Water is a drink that is so important for beauty and health overall, but particularly for your smile and oral health. It can help to flush away dirt from in between your teeth, as well as rinse away sugar particles left on your teeth, so it can really help to improve tooth decay. Most tap water is best to have, as it contains a natural amount of fluoride in it, which is something else that can be good for your teeth and help them to be strong. Avoid too many fizzy drinks, but if you have to have them, drinking them through a straw is best practice.

  1. I hate my teeth, which is why I always try to smile with my lips shut! I often think what it would be like if I had nice teeth, white and straight. I probably should have had braces as a kid but you can see the damage some things can do like smoking, so getting rid of stains is important and checking what the products are you’re using. I’m a bit unsure about what whitening products are any good now because they either don’t work or they’re too abrasive and potentially very damaging to teeth. A good toothbrush is a must, that can make a big difference! Great tips 🙂
