A New You: How You Can Break Away And Start Afresh

Life isn’t the most straightforward thing in the world, huh? Some people have it all figured out, and some wander through life not having a clue about what to do next. Those two types of people have something in common, however: they both run into bumps along the way. It doesn’t matter how safe and sound things are looking; significant bumps can tend to rear their ugly faces.

Some take them in their stride and wear certain things as badges of honor. Others prefer to forget they even happened. For a lot of people, their current situation can affect their lives so much that they feel like they need to move on and start afresh. Where they are now is a lost cause, and the only way to be happy is to put everything behind them and become a new person! We’ve all had that feeling from time to time, and it’s completely normal – people do like fresh changes and variety, after all.

Do you resonate with that kind of thinking? Do you feel as though you need to get a fresh start in life and put a bunch of negatives behind you? Well, here are a few ways you can do just that:

Recognize That You’re Not Your Past

Before you take actual steps to improve your life, you’ll need to get into the right frame of mind. What you do upstairs trumps everything else – your brain is the most important organ of all. It’s quite a cliché, but your past doesn’t define you. It’s something that we tend to struggle to understand as we’re a judgemental species, but it’s true. You’ve been in a bunch of terrible situations in the past, but that has nothing to do with who you are as a person. Remember that.

Talk To Your Close Ones About Your Life

You’re going to have a lot of thoughts swirling around your head about who you are and the situation as a whole. Keeping thoughts locked away in your head can be detrimental for your mental health as well as what you’re trying to achieve. Have a little chat with friends and/or family members about how you should approach the next stages of your life. The opinions of people closest to you matter.

Sort Everything Around You

If you want to start afresh, you’re going to want to make sure that the external factors surrounding you correlate with what you’re trying to do. It may seem like a small and petty point, but your social media (if you have any) will say a lot about you. If you wish to remove that kind of persona and begin anew, then you’ll have to deal with that somehow. You might also want to check other real-life formalities around you. For instance, if you have any records against you, then you might want to visit places like Pardons Canada and see if you can get your slate wiped clean. It’s not just about what’s going on internally.

  1. Excellent observation, Ula. The main difference between those who “have it together” and those who “haven’t a clue” is in attitude and preparation.

The challenges, twists and turns are the same for everyone, though when you make provisions and can rely on friends and family, it makes it much easier to take the debris in stride. Your situation isn’t any better, just your prep work is.
