Learning is a lifelong process and something that we want for our children and for ourselves. Learning increases our confidence, makes getting a new job or advancing in our careers easier and is a lot of fun.
Healthy Brain
A study in recent years found that learning can help keep your brain healthy. Increasing your knowledge gets your brain functioning at a higher than average level. Like every other muscle in your body, your brain needs to get a good workout from time to time. Science Daily posted an article that talked about continuous learning and the physical process of Alzheimer’s Disease. So if you want to take care of your brain for longer, then it is time to start learning.
Career
You can grow your career and put yourself forward for promotions and raises. Or, you can choose to learn something totally new with recognized MBA programs. Online education makes it easier than ever to increase your depth of knowledge, or give you a whole new area of expertise. And the biggest bonus is you can do it at times that suit you best.
Role Model
You children need people to look up to, and you should be that for them. When they see you studying, reading books, researching and increasing your mental capacity – they are likely to follow your lead. Which puts them in great stead during their schooling and beyond.
‘Don’t just teach your children to read. Teach them to question what they read. Teach them to question everything.’ –George Carlin
Boredom
If you often find that you get bored, or that you have many hours that you can fill up. Then learning a new skill, or a new hobby can help combat that. If you are constantly learning new things, and putting that knowledge into practice, you won’t have time to get bored, and in fact, you probably won’t be able to remember the last time you got bored at all.
Fun
Not all learning has to be about your career progression or making money. In fact, it could be something that you just do for fun. Think about hobbies like knitting, cooking, baking, writing and painting. They are all creative, and you are likely to end up with something at the end of it too.
Perspective
The more you know, the more you can look at things with a fresh perspective. When you are having conversations about the world, raising children, new technology, politics and more you can have a strong opinion and back it up with facts.
‘Man’s mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions.’ – Oliver Wendell Holme
Learning is something that is fabulous, will make a difference in your life in terms of career options, and really can help us grow as a person. What you choose to learn is up to you, so long as you enjoy it, you’ll be devouring books, articles and research papers in no time at all.

Absolutely! I’m retired so in my late sixties! I would feel like I was standing still and not be able to make good choices if I hadn’t learned and been taught new and wonderful things!
