When you have high blood pressure, it is important that you think ahead when it comes to travelling. You need to think about the method of travel, where you are planning on going and much more. Here, we are going to give you some tips on how you can travel with high blood pressure. Keep reading if you’d like to find out more.

Can You Fly?
If your trip involves flying, then you should make sure that you are able to control your high blood pressure. It is totally possible to fly when you have this condition, but it is always advisable to talk to your local GP beforehand. This is because of the change in atmosphere and how it can affect your high blood pressure. If you don’t have the right medication, you could harm yourself, so it is important that you are prepared for the flight. Don’t be afraid to fly when you have high blood pressure, just make sure to get the go ahead first.
Travel Insurance
It is always important to get some travel insurance before you set off on holiday and this is especially important if you have high blood pressure. The good news is that there are many travel insurance options when you have high blood pressure that you can take advantage of. The reason that you need to alert your insurer about your condition is that if something were to happen to you as a result of your high blood pressure and you hadn’t informed them before, you wouldn’t be covered. It is a good idea to always be honest so don’t forget this when purchasing your insurance.
Monitoring High Blood Pressure
If you have a blood pressure monitor, then it might be a good idea to take it on holiday with you. This means that you can stay in control of your body and keep track of how the environment is affecting your blood pressure. You should check your blood pressure at least twice a day and keep a note of the different figures. When you are travelling at high altitudes, it might be advisable to check your blood pressure and compare it to how it normally is. If needed you should be able to seek help. Always monitor your blood pressure to be safe.
Managing Medication
Our final tip for those who are planning on travelling with high blood pressure is to make sure that you bring all of your medication. This means that you will be able to stay in control and have your medication when you need it. Makes sure that you pack your medication in your hand luggage so that you can access it easily when you are on the plane. You might need it most when you are travelling so don’t leave it at home or hid it away in your suitcase if you can. It’s also a good idea to consider bringing a prescription from your doctor just in case you lose your medication while you are away.
Final Verdict
If you’re planning on travelling when you have high blood pressure, then you should make sure that you take on board all of our advice. Make sure that you tell your travel insurance company about your conditions and get yourself covered. You should also bring your mediation with you and make sure that you are monitoring your blood pressure while you are travelling. If you are able to stay on top of your high blood pressure, then you should have an enjoyable trip without having to worry about it too much.

Would like to add: In my experience having proper meals and adequate sleep also helps manage high bp during travel.

Good post. Many retired people from the US on Medicare don’t realize they are not covered once they leave the United States. My secondary doesn’t even cover me. So it’s very important to obtain travel insurance when traveling abroad. The coverage I get amounts to approx $60-90 for two weeks travel. Well worth the cost in case something happens.
Thank you!
