7 Must-See Christmas Movies & Christmas Playlist

Christmas is around the corner so it’s high time to watch some Christmas movies, right? Also, Christmas music is on and I diffuse my favorite Christmas Tree Blend writing this for you guys :). I only miss some Polish pierogies with cabbage and mushrooms to feel the “real” spirit of Christmas :).

We all have our favorite movies, but I tried to create the list of must-see Christmas movies that you can go back whenever the time of Christmas is coming. I have asked my Instagram followers (on insta stories) what their favorite Christmas movie is yesterday and I’m happy to say that all of those I’m about to list appear to be someone’s (if not more) favorite.

Home Alone (1990)

I don’t think there’s anyone that doesn’t know this movie. Even though, there’s Home Alone 2 and 3 and more, the very first is the best one and the funniest. My favorite scene is the one when Kevin is happy that he stayed at home alone :D. When something very happy happens in my life, my husband may see Kevin in me, lol.

Elf (2003)

As far as I am concerned, Will Ferrell did an amazing job in this movie and yes, if I knew Santa personally, I would react the same way as he did when Santa was coming to town :).

The Holiday (2006)

This is the kind of movie that I play whenever I want to remind myself of a beauty of winter and Christmas time. When you wear comfy and warm clothes and slippers with a cup of cocoa. Yes, it is more of a “chick flick” kind of movie :).

How The Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)

Marvelous acting of Jim Carrey is number one that everyone should see this movie, because he did a great job creating this character, which is Grinch. Let me also say: “Cheer up, dude. It’s Christmas!”

Die Hard (1988)

If I don’t mention this movie, my husband won’t be talking to me :). An oldie, but a goodie of an action movie with Bruce Willis.

The Christmas Chronicles (2018)

Finally, a new Christmas movie with a great story line, acting and new characters of elves. I’ve watched it only once, but I will again right on Christmas Day. If you haven’t seen it yet, it is definitely worth checking out.

The Santa Clause (1994)

A great family movie, which sometimes make me think: maybe Santa Clause really exist?! 🙂

Last, but not least, I would like to share with you my Christmas playlist I’ve created on Spotify. For those who use it, you are more than welcome to check it out by clicking here :).

  1. I highly recommend the 1984 version of A Christmas Carol starring George C. Scott. And if you’re into concerts you should watch Celtic Woman: A Christmas Celebration. Here it is on YouTube:

  2. Ah, the good old Home Alone. 🙂 Dunno if you’re usually up to date with what goes on in Poland, but a few years ago the TV that always broadcasts Home Alone on Christmas Eve decided to finish the tradition… Those dozens of thousands signing an online petition made them change their mind 😀 That’s the power of Kevin, an absolute must-watch ^^

    1. I’m Polish, girl! 😃 Of course, I know that about Polsat and I was the one signing the petition, as well ☺🌼

      1. Well I didn’t know how interested you were in what’s going on here while living so far away 😀 I signed it too, naturally! ^^

    2. Well, although I live in a muslim majority-country, they always broadcast Home Alone series every christmas holiday. It almost like a tradition for us, marks the christmas is near. 🤓

      1. That’s great! I just love that film, for me it brings back memories from my childhood Christmases, but I also simply find it funny, and I’m glad the film is popular even in countries which don’t celebrate the holiday that widely ^^

  3. Perhaps it’s a generational thing. I respect your choices even though none of your picks appear in my list. Apparently none of my picks appear in yours. The following is my list of very favorite Christmas movies:

    “Scrooge” with Alistair Sim

“Miracle on 34th Street” with Margaret O’Brien

“It’s a Wonderful Life” with James Stewart

“How the Grinch Stole Christmas” animation

“Holiday Inn” Bing Crosby & Fred Astaire

“White Christmas” Bing Crosby & Rosemary Clooney

“Going My Way” Bing Crosby, Barry Fitzgerald

“The Bells of St. Mary’s” Bing Crosby, Ingrid Bergman

Not exactly Christmassy, but these fit nonetheless:

“Heaven Know Mr. Allison” Robert Mitchum, Deborah Kerr

    “Watership Down” animation

      1. I’ll see if I can watch your picks, too. I’m not a fan of the violence in the Die Hard series, and I really didn’t see much in Elf, but I will watch again with a more open mind.

  4. Thank you for sharing this list, I am old school and I love to sit next to my momma drinking hot cocoa ☕ watching old movies till sunrise! I’ll be sure to add them to this year’s list 🎄⭐
    Cheers!

  5. Oh my! Okay, I’m with Barbara somewhat, but to add A Christmas Story as my kids’ favorite. I prefer The Santa Claus and of course now the new Christmas Chronicles may join the club. I enjoyed It’s a Wonderful Life for many years and it still makes me cry and Miracle on 34th Street.

  6. I loved The Christmas Chronicles, and it is like the first christmas movie that i ever see, well that I remember… I’ll try to watch the others as well, and also I made my own christmas movie list to watch before the 24.

      1. I have just looked at the movie “The Christmas Chronicles”. A fantastic movie! 😀 I watched it with pleasure and enjoyed it … 🙂

  11. Great list! One of my faves is missing though… Have you had a chance to see “Love Actually”? Such a fantastic Christmas movie.

  12. Home Alone!❤❤❤❤ I totally agree that the first movie was the best.
I also like ‘Daddy’s home 2.’ Had watched it because I had nothing else to do at the moment and man, it was a great movie.
