Mornings – What’s The Healthiest To Drink First?

There are early birds who have no bigger problems with waking up in the morning and there are night owls who struggle to keep their eyes opened after they wake up (that’s me).
No matter which one you are, there are some drinks which help you get through the morning in the healthiest way.

Matcha

Let me start with this one, because it’s been six months since I last drank coffee :). (I’m very happy about it, because I could drink 1, 2 or even sometimes 3 cups of coffee during the day and I couldn’t imagine a day without coffee. Luckily, I stopped this addiction [wasn’t easy], but I had a lot of support from my significant other ❀ who doesn’t drink coffee at all so yes, I made it. Anything is possible if you really want it! πŸ™‚ ).

I replaced coffee with green tea, but in its most concentrated form which is matcha, where you drink the actual tea leaves (powder). It’s “loaded with antioxidants, amino acids, chlorophyll as well as other vitamins and nutrients.” Driking this tea, there are also great health benefits such as: it prevents cancer, promotes weight loss, benefits exercise performance, best food source of disease-fighting catechins, high levels of l-theanine for an alert calm, reduces heart disease risk and hypertension, lower type II diabetes risk and detoxifies the body.

Let me also tell you that I’m not drinking it alone (it doesn’t have the best taste on its own), but one huge coffee company (the one you can see at every corner, especially in big cities) has “green tea latte” and the way I’m doing it at home is just adding milk to it and voila, delicious and so healthy!

Coffee

This drink is so common that I won’t write about it a lot. With coffee there are some health benefits (high in antioxidants, may protect the liver, aids physical activity, supports cognitive function), but there are also some risks (caffeine addiction, can alter mood and increase anxiety).

Kefir with flax seed

It’s the best thing for colon cleanse. In our intestines are toxins and waste which are very dangerous to our health, to get rid of them drinking kefir (benefits are: boosts immunity, heals inflammatory bowel disease, builds bone density, fights allergies, improves lactose digestion, kills candida and supports detoxification) with flax seed (high in fiber) is the way to do it.  Mix 1 tbsp (or 1 tsp at the beginning) of grounded flax seed in about half glass of kefir and simply drink it.

Apple cider vinegar

Water, lemon and 1tbsp of apple cider vinegar (and honey if you like) will wake you up with its sourness (trust me on this one, haha). Anyway, there are many health benefits such as: it promotes digestion, enhances immune system, adjusts blood sugar, lowers high blood pressure, cleanses your body, aids weight loss, boosts energy, benefits your skin and improves oral health.

Lemon water

I tried this so many times, but couldn’t stick with it, but maybe you can, because it’s healthy as well to start your day with. Drinking water with lemon has benefits such as: it bumps up the vitamin C quotient, aids in digestion and detoxification, heals the body and rejuvenates skin, helps shed pounds and boots energy and mood.

These are my suggestions to start the day, do you have any others or maybe you start your day already with one of the above? πŸ™‚

I’d like to thank all my readers, because this week I achieved more than 1,600 likes and I have more than 800 followers and I have only 10 (with this one) posts so far, so thank you all so much!!! Thank you for all your kindness! πŸ™‚

I would also like to thank my boyfriend who “gave me wings” to write, thank you my love! ❀☺

  1. I drink my lemon water every morning and I am so used to it. I love it and it feels refreshing. I love to drink hot water during the day too without lemon though. Lemon is my morning treat!

  2. I used to drink lemon water with fresh lemons and I loved it, but the acid is not good for the teeth. It’s quite refreshing though. Now I drink an electrolyte packet to hydrate before my morning run. Thanks for a wonderful blog.

    1. One simple and effective thing you could do is rinse your mouth after drinking the lemon water. That’ll help greatly reduce the acid levels within the mouth.

  3. I am a late nighter. I can function in the mornings but it is not a good time for me. I am a Diet Pepsi drinker which is worse than loving coffee. At least coffee has some good attributes. My choice does not. Except one. Taste.
I do love herbal teas and lattes.
I don’t like plain water but love lemon water. Enjoyed the post.

  4. First of all I loved your article! I really want to try matcha (I have drank green tea in the past). I also wanted to know if you have ever tried aloe? I usually drink about two tablespoons mixed with water and it really helps with digestive health as well as with water retention.
    Thanks again for your post,

    1. Thank you so much! ☺ About aloe, yes I tried aloe juice, because it’s also good for hair, but I couldn’t drink it, the taste of it :(, although I still have it in my fridge :). Do you drink it with just water? Nothing else? πŸ™‚

      1. So I actually buy my aloe from herbalife, because I can buy it in mango or cranberry and it is delicious. I have tried other brands of aloe and could not stomach them.

      2. You could try mixing it with another drink? have you tried that yet?

  5. Good read! i would say water is the best drink to have first thing in the morning. After all around 70% of our body is made up of water and it’s an essential component of cellular function.

  6. Thank you for reminding me about lemon water. I’d forgotten how good that was for you. I expected a fruit and greek yogurt smoothie to be on this list, but that’s more like breakfast than a wake-you-up cup of something.

  7. I still believe the best is spring water at four degrees C … but my choice is coffee.
I grind the beans and use a plunger/press thing, water just off the boil and it matters not a whit whether I add milk or not.
I used to use a wee stovetop gadget but one day forgot about it (blogging, would you believe) and when I finally remembered I found my lovely little gadget had now become an integral part of the stovetop element … once cooled I separated it easily enough, and I really should post a shot of it (looks a lot like an art deco bird on a smooth rock statuette).

As for ‘heath’ benefits of various potions, I’m very much in the ‘if it feels good, do it’ camp.

  8. Yes you were right to give up on coffee. The side effects are harmful. I like to drink green tea occasionally too, but the best drink for the system is just plain water.

  9. I start with a glass of water. Then orange juice with breakfast and then a cup of black tea ( made from loose black tea either English or Irish breakfast tea blend) with milk , no sugar. I’ve been drinking tea since I was four and I’m still here at 67 so there must be some health benefits to it. (lol)

  10. I am in the process of quitting coffee. I used to drink at least 8 cups a day then for the last year it has been 2-3 but as part of my VSG surgery, coffee is one of a few things I need to eliminate from my life. It isn’t easy. This morning I made tea but it just isn’t the same. It is so hard but I have to do it.
I did buy a cup with a built in infuser for my lemon waters.
    Great post

  11. Hello. I keep telling myself to stop drinking coffee. I like green tea and will try and get the ‘matcha’ form from a health shop. Flaxseed and apple cider vinegar are great. I take flaxseed capsules and drink a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in cold water every evening before I go to bed. They are both definite colon cleaners and help with skin problems. Thanks for sharing your health tips.

  12. I actually like the lemon juice (and quite a bit of it) in warm water first thing but have swapped to having apple cider vinegar in orange juice with some warm water.
    Carol.

  13. Hi! Thank you for following my humble culinary blog. I have read all the comments here and was wondering if it is better to drink the apple cider mix in the morning, or at night before hitting the pillow?
Great start: only ten posts and so many followers already … I’m impressed!

  14. P-S: The best boyfriend is the one who “gives you wings” rather than hold you back. I should know. Long, loooong time ago, I had the second type. Thank God I married the first!

  15. I like to put lemon in my ice water. I find it refreshing. I generally drink it anytime during the day, but not everyday. I’m still a coffee-holic as my husband likes to say.
Thank you for the follow. I am returning the favor.

      1. Ooh no I haven’t! That’s a good shout πŸ™‚ I’m vegan so will have to try different milk alternatives and see what’s best! Thankyou ☺️

  16. I also benefit from drinking green tea in the morning to wake up. I consider it a healthy alternative to coffee. You have quite an interesting blog. Thank you for stopping by and following my blog.

    Betsy

  17. Great read! I love to start my day with either coconut kefir or chicken broth and definitely a glass of water…although sleepless nights with a baby sometimes calls for coffee πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆπŸ™πŸ»

  18. Great suggestions! I used to be a coffee drinker, but I have a hard time with the caffeine and could benefit from additional ways to start my day energized. looking forward to following!

      1. Thank you so much, you are seriously so sweet, I woke up to all of your likes on blog, it brought a huge smile on my face so I owe you a thank you (hug) hope to stay connected with you in the future xoxo
